But then, you realize that it's not really hilarious. It's just plain horrifyingly awful. And the laughter you were experiencing morphs into a sigh.
Ultimately, you are left with a sense of bewilderment. You start ruminating about the meaning of it all. Was this intended to be funny?
Or were we just all part of a grand, cosmic prank?

The volcanic eruption struck without warning, ravaging entire cities in its sweep. Buildings shattered like house of cards, and the screams that erupted was deafening. Thousands were trapped beneath rubble, their fate uncertain. The severity of the disaster was unprecedented, leaving survivors to grapple a future forever changed.

Dreadful Day Ever
It all started with a terrible case of terrible hair. I couldn't make it to look right. As I was hurrying out the door, I fell and landed all over myself. To make matters worse, I was totally behind schedule for school.

It all started out horribly with a simple mishap/incident/screw-up. But then things went from bad to absolutely terrible. A series/chain/cascade of unfortunate/awful/disastrous events unfolded/occurred/piled on top each other, leaving me feeling like I was in a nightmare/horror movie/comedy of errors. It's the kind of situation where you just want to run away and hide.
